We’re glad you asked! It’s a common misconception that carpets will always look the same as the day they were fitted, however, this isn’t quite true. Fret not! At London Carpet Solutions we aim to provide useful advice that can help improve the appearance of your carpet and its longevity, so you can enjoy that soft luxurious feel for longer.

Yes, we do! Fitting carpet or any other type of flooring purchased from London Carpet Solutions is an additional service we can arrange if you need us to. Our carpet fitting service starts from £6.50 per m2 - just let us know if you want fitting included in your quote. We can also arrange to uplift and remove your old flooring at the same time for an additional fee. If you decide you just want to order carpet from us and use your own carpet fitter or lay the carpet yourself, that's absolutely fine.

Yes, we offer a ‘whipping’ service, which is the technical name for the action of edging an offcut or carpet, so that it can be made into a rug or mat. If you bring your offcut into our store, they will be able to confirm the price for this service as well as how long it will take.

Yes, we do! We can place an order from any of our carpet ranges as long as a minimum quantity of 4 metres is placed. This can then be cut down and whipped into a runner for stairs or a hallway thus expanding your choice greatly. We do also sell a wide range of lovely stair rods to add those gorgeous finishing touches.

Yes we do & we can transform any carpet from our collection into a bespoke rug! Any piece of carpet can be edged to your specific size and shape to create the perfect made to measure rug. This technique is know as carpet whipping, and it's a specialist skill. Our store offers the carpet whipping service. Choose one of our wonderful carpets or make matching doormats out of offcuts. Let us know the size and we’ll whip your carpet into shape! Ask one of our flooring experts about this service during your appointment or in store.

Oh no! It’s always a panic-inducing moment when you see that glass of red wine tip over in slow motion onto your plush cream carpet, but the quicker you act, the less chance there is of it staining.

Our store may have additional offcuts remaining from a previously cut carpet, or may have small remnants for you to have at a small price. This can vary so please do get in touch with us via our Sales & Support line on 0203 488 9766 so we can help find what you're looking for.

The best option for a pet-friendly carpet is one with a short pile. Loop carpets are a great choice as any pet hair tends to sit on top of the carpet, making it much easier to vacuum. Go for a shorter loop carpet as taller loops can sometimes snag on your pets' claws. A carpet made from 100% polypropylene is stain resistant so any muddy paw prints or little accidents can be easily cleaned up.

The answer is... it depends. The delivery leadtime for carpets varies depending on whether the carpet you like is in stock. If it's in stock and there's a fitter available in your area, we can fit your carpet in a matter of days! We'll always let you know if there's likely to be any delays to your order, and offer alternatives where possible. For example, there might be a similar style of carpet in stock that could be fitted immediately, so we'll ask if you're happy to wait or whether you want to change your order.

No, 5m is the widest carpet we have available. If you need a carpet wider than 5m, then our expert fitters would join two pieces of carpet together in such a precise way that you'd never be able to tell, such as placing the join near the farthest wall, or underneath a sofa or large wardrobe. Our flooring experts can advise you of your options when they measure your floor, as well as suggest the best style of carpets to choose so the join is less noticeable.

A carpet tog rating is exactly the same as a tog rating for a duvet - it's how good it is at insulation. The higher a carpet's tog rating, the better it'll be at keeping your room warm, so pick a carpet with a high tog rating if you'll be laying it over draughty wooden floorboards!
You need to pay special attention to tog ratings if you've got underfloor heating. Whilst you want to insulate your room, you also want the heat to be able to flow up and into the room. A lower tog rating will transmit underfloor heating more efficiently. We'd recommend a maximum of 2.5 tog on top of underfloor heating. Underlay also has a tog rating, so this could be a combination of a high tog carpet and a low tog underlay, or vice versa.

There's a lot of choice when it comes to carpet underlay, and the experts at London Carpet Solutions can help you decide which underlay is best! Just like a superhero's sidekick, underlay provides support for your carpet and helps enhance its performance. Carpet underlay comes in a variety of different materials, including recycled PU foam and sponge rubber, as well as a range of thicknesses. Our carpet underlay ranges from 8mm - 12mm, so make sure you choose a thicker underlay for a room with high footfall.

There are two reasons why there might be a line running along the length of your new carpet. The first reason is known as a pole mark and is caused by the pole that the carpet is tightly wrapped around during transportation. These indentations are normally found close to a wall and should fade away as the carpet becomes acclimatised to the room. You can help to speed up this process by regularly vacuum cleaning the line to bring the pile back up. If the line doesn’t disappear after 4 weeks, please contact us.

The second reason is known as a line fault and is caused by an issue in the carpet manufacturing process, resulting in a visible line of higher pile along the length of your carpet that won't disappear over time. If you have a line fault in your carpet, please contact us straight away on 0203 488 9766 and we'll arrange for the issue to be rectified.

Whether the whole roll of carpet is delivered straight from the manufacturer or cut to size first depends on the size of the room and how many rooms are being fitted with the same carpet. Sometimes, if the amount of carpet on the roll (the cut) is similar to the room size then the whole roll might be delivered. That way, if there's a mistake in the floor measurements, there's extra carpet to work with.
If the same carpet is being installed in multiple rooms, such as stairs and a landing, it will probably be cut to size in the warehouse where is plenty of space to roll it out. Some of the bigger cuts of carpet are extremely heavy and it wouldn’t be possible for the fitters to get the carpet inside your home if it wasn't cut down beforehand.

Unfortunately, we don’t do flooring repairs. Whilst our fitting partners can repair some subfloor issues, and we can also rectify any fitting issues under our 2 year fitting guarantee, we can’t help with aesthetic flooring repairs.
We can help you rectify most household stains. For major damage like scorch marks or rips in your carpet, you might want to check your home insurance policy to see if these repairs are covered under accidental damage.

We're frequently asked how much it costs to carpet a room, and the answer is that it depends on lots of different things: the type of carpet, the size of the room(s), how many rooms, the type of underlay, the location it will be fitted, and which accessories you choose, among many other things.
To give you an idea, our cheapest carpets start from £4.99 per m2 and our charge for fitting carpet is £5.30 per m2, so it costs less than £240 to carpet a small 3x4 metre room (including underlay, door bars, and grippers). We can also uplift and remove your old flooring for an additional cost, and this is something we can arrange for you when you place your order. Our flooring experts will be able to talk you through the costs of fitting a new carpet when you visit us in-store or book a home visit online.

How to tell if I need to change my subfloor?
A good sub floor is essential to getting maximum performance out of your new flooring. Before you can even think about laying your new flooring, you need to first check the existing sub floor is in good condition, and this is the best time to check, when your flooring is removed. If it isn't, any imperfections underneath, like lumps, dips & wobbly bits, will be reflected in any flooring laid on top.

What is a sub floor?

Simply put, a sub floor is the surface on which a floor covering is laid. Every floor is made up of different types of layers: the joists (the structural element which supports everything on top), the subfloor, the underlay (depending on the flooring type), and finally, the decorative floorcovering on top, like carpet, laminate or vinyl.

What are the different types of subfloor?

There are lots of different types of subfloors - the main ones being wooden floorboards, screed and concrete - all of which have thier different benefits. Which type of subfloor you have in your home will depend on many factors, such as how old your house is. You might find you have different subfloors in different rooms if your home has been extended or renovated over the years.

What does a good sub floor look like?

Before the flooring can be laid you need to make sure the subfloor is dry, smooth & level, sstructurally sound, and free from debris. A subfloor in poor condition will need to be repaired before new flooring can be installed - this should be done by a professional. Here are four signs of a good sub floor:

  • Dry - This means completely free from moisture, not just dry to the touch. This is especially important if you've had a concrete or screed compound laid, which often takes a minimum of one day's drying time per millimetre of thickness. To test for moisture in your concrete subfloor, tape a square of polythene to it and leave it overnight. If there's condensation on the underside of polythene, or the concrete underneath is a different colour to the rest of the subfloor, then it's not fully dry yet.

  • Structurally Sound - The subfloor should be solid, stable and able to provide support for anything placed on top. If you have a wooden subfloor, all the floorboards will need to be nailed, or screwed down securely or covered with plyboard if there are too many big gaps, before any new flooring can be laid.
